About the Calorie Burn Calculator
Different activities burn energy at different rates. This tool uses standard energy values (METs) from the Compendium of Physical Activities.
Formula explained
Calories burned = MET × body weight (kg) × time (hours)
MET (metabolic equivalent) compares an activity with sitting still (MET 1). Examples: brisk walking about 3.5–4.3 · cycling (moderate) about 6.8–8 · running at 8 km/h about 8.3 · yoga about 2.5–3.
Frequently asked questions
How accurate are calorie-burn numbers?
They are estimates. Fitness level, terrain and intensity all change the real number, so treat the result as a guide.
Does walking 10,000 steps burn a lot of calories?
Usually around 300–500 kcal depending on your weight and pace — a useful amount when done daily.
