About the Hemoglobin Reference Range Checker
Anaemia is very common in India, especially among women and children. Low haemoglobin can cause tiredness, breathlessness and poor concentration.
Formula explained
Uses WHO haemoglobin cut-offs for anaemia (g/dL):
Men 15+ years: below 13 · Non-pregnant women 15+: below 12 · Pregnant women: below 11
Children 6–59 months: below 11 · 5–11 years: below 11.5 · 12–14 years: below 12
Severity for non-pregnant women, for example: mild 11–11.9 · moderate 8–10.9 · severe below 8.
Frequently asked questions
What are the common causes of low haemoglobin?
Iron deficiency is the most common, followed by vitamin B12 or folate deficiency, blood loss, chronic disease and inherited conditions like thalassaemia.
How can I raise my haemoglobin?
Treat the cause. For iron deficiency, iron-rich foods (green leafy vegetables, jaggery, dates, meat) with vitamin C help, but most people also need iron tablets prescribed by a doctor.
